Homemade products are often daunting to those who have never tried, but do not despair – homemade hair care products are easy to create and cheap. Homemade shampoos are extremely cheap to make and versatile since many of the ingredients can be found already at home. But better still, they do not contain all the nasty additives and chemicals found in the store-bought treatments.

1 – Shampoo

Shampoos are very simple to make. All you need to do is grab a clean empty bottle and fill it with equal amounts of unscented castile soap and water and then add several drops of your favorite essential oils (lavender, orange and peppermint are top favorite’s) and then apply to wet hair. You can add other items including honey and herbs.

2 – Conditioner

Conditioners are a great way to keep your hair healthy and shiny and they are even easier to make than a homemade shampoo. Find your base – avocado and bananas are favorites – mash it all up and then add coconut oil or olive oil. You can add other ingredients such as honey, milk and essential oils. Apply to damp hair and leave for 30 minutes before washing off.

3 – Clarifying Shampoo

A clarifying shampoo should be used once a fortnight (two weeks) in order to remove the traces of other hair products and dirt and grime. Simply mix two cups of lukewarm water, a tablespoon of baking powder and then a dash of apple cider vinegar. Massage the mixture into your hair whilst in the bath or shower and leave it there for several minutes before rinsing off.

4 – Hair Mask

Hair masks are recommended at least once a week in order to keep it soft, supple and shiny. The easiest way of doing this is to apply a tablespoon of coconut oil to your hair after washing it, massaging it gently into the middle section in particular. After leaving it on for a few minutes, simply wash off. Experts’ advice is not to massage coconut oil onto the ends of the hair as it can weigh it down.

5 – Dry Shampoo

Sometimes in today’s busy lifestyle, you do not always get time to wash your hair on occasions. If this is the case, a dry shampoo is the answer. Mix together coconut milk powder, talcum powder, baking powder and cornmeal and then apply a light dusting to your hair, especially to the scalp.

6 – Curl Enhancer

To enhance your curls, take two tablespoons of aloe vera gel, coconut oil and shea butter and combine in a bowl until thoroughly mixed. Smear a little to each curl and watch them become springy and curly.

7 – Frizz Tamer

Whether it is due to the heat or just because it is natural, get rid of the frizz by simply applying a small amount of olive oil or coconut oil to the middle of your hair and massage it right to the ends in order to make it smoother.

8 – Thickening Rinse

After washing and conditioning your hair normally, take a bottle of room-temperature beer and simply pour it over your head. After letting it settle for several minutes, wash it out. Because of the hops in the beer, it will make your hair more bounce and look much thicker.
